Today's card is "Prostration." Not the most comfortable subject for a morning — bowing to the ground, remembering your mother, your father, the whole line of people trailing behind you. The first reaction is resistance: why stir up something that's supposedly closed already? But here's the thing — what's "closed" is usually just shoved out of sight, not actually lived through, and it still runs you from the shadows: in who you snap at, who you keep choosing in relationships, why you can't stop somewhere you should have stopped long ago. Your lineage isn't an abstraction out of a psychology book. It's your real, physical history, written into your body before it ever reached your head.

I remember the first time I made myself lie down on my stomach, arms stretched out in front of me — and felt like an idiot. A grown man, on the floor, arms out, whispering something to a father who isn't there. Embarrassing, honestly. But somewhere around the twentieth time, the embarrassment left, and something else showed up in its place — a weight I'd carried for years without even noticing it, the way you stop noticing an old backpack you never take off. The hard part isn't the gesture itself — lying on the floor is easy. The hard part is naming the resentment honestly instead of saying something pretty like "I forgave everyone long ago" and walking away pleased with yourself. Forgiving with words is easy — half the people around you do exactly that. Forgiving with the body, repeating it over and over until the old defense actually cracks, is a different story entirely, and I wouldn't wish going through it alone on anyone.

What to do today — not a hundred and eight times, just three, but for real: stand up, raise your arms, lower yourself to the floor, stretch your arms out in front of you, and name out loud not just "mom" or "dad," but something specific — what you're angry about, and what you're grateful for, in the same breath. This isn't a pretty ritual for a photo. It's about the fact that your lineage holds you tighter than you think, and as long as you're at war with it inside — you're just at war with yourself, the long way around.
