Today's card is "Walking the Bottom." Cold title, but accurate — I've been there myself, more than once, and I know: the bottom isn't a metaphor for something that happens to other people. It's an actual place, where the money runs out, the strength runs out, and one morning you realize you don't want to get up — not from laziness, but because you can't see the point. I remember that state in my mouth — a dryness, like I hadn't had water in a week, even though I had. I remember the silence in a room when the phone doesn't ring, because there's no one left to call — the people who stood around you on the way up left on the way down, and that's probably the most honest thing the bottom ever shows you: who was actually with you, and who was with your money and your good mood.
The hard part isn't the pain itself — strangely, you get used to pain fast. The hard part is the temptation to lie to yourself that the bottom happened to you, not because of you. Sometimes it really did just happen — don't invent guilt where there isn't any. But if there's something to ask forgiveness for, ask now, don't push it to "when I'm back on my feet." I know from my own life: until you sort out what part of this bottom is a lesson and what part is just a mean stretch of luck, you'll keep marching in place, pretending to move. The bottom isn't punishment. It's the point from which you finally see clearly, without decoration — and that's exactly why it's so honest.
What to do today, if you're down there right now: don't make any big decisions, don't write farewell letters to yourself or anyone else, don't burn bridges you'll want to rebuild later. Do one small thing with your hands — take out the trash, wash a cup, walk one block. Not because it will save you, but because the bottom rewards a person who moves even an inch, instead of lying there waiting for it to let go on its own. It does let go — but not for those who just wait.
"You push off the bottom, you don't drown in it — the choice is still yours, even here."
